The Boxcar Children

Part of the Fall Act Class programming.

Grades 4-8 may participate.

Generations of young readers have cherished the spirited Depression-era adventures of The Boxcar Children, and now the Alden children's story comes to life on stage. Orphaned and in danger of being sent to different foster homes, the four siblings run away and make their home in an abandoned railroad boxcar. Pursued by the authorities and a mysterious stranger, the children discover the rewards and perils of life on the run, as well as the joy of keeping their family together.

Rehearsals will be on Saturdays as part of the Fall ACT class of this same name. Registration is required. No audition, however, is necessary.

Performances: November 20 and 21, 2008 at 7 PM. Performed at the Enrichment Center, 1006 S. Marshall St.

NOTE: During the week of November 17-21, participants must be able to commit to evening technical rehearsals.

The Katrina Project: Hell and High Water

An emotional journey into the hearts and souls of Hurricane Katrina's survivors, this play is based on actual interviews, collected stories, and found texts, providing a voice for the greatest natural disaster in our country's recorded history. The play follows a diverse group of characters as they reflect on and experience the devastation, heartbreak, anger, and, ultimately, hope of the thousands affected by the Category 5 storm.

(All royalties from THE KATRINA PROJECT: Hell and High Water will be donated to hurricane relief charities.)

Auditions: October 18, 2008 in the ACT classroom at 10 AM. Readings from the script will take place. Please call ahead (748-0857 x 204) to let us know you are auditioning.

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm

Not part of ACT Class programming

Grades 3-8

Rebecca, a bright, outspoken young girl, leaves her farmland home to live with her two elderly aunts. On the farm, Rebecca didn't have to worry about conventional rules placed upon a young girl growing up during the turn of the century. However, when Rebecca moves to the city, her independent nature is tested. Rebecca's Aunt Miranda is not amused when she finds out that Rebecca has spoken out of turn in class, sold soap door-to-door, and ruined the gingham dress made especially for her. This original adaptation focuses on the conflict between the strong-willed personalities of Rebecca and her Aunt Miranda, and Rebecca's struggle to please her aunt while trying to find her own place in the world.

Auditions: February 28, 2009 in the ACT Classroom at 10 AM. Readings from the script will take place. Please call ahead (748-0857 x 204) to let us know you are auditioning.

Performances: As part of a partnership with Reynolda House Museum of American Art, we will perform in the museum auditorium on April 17 @ 7 PM and April 18 @ 3 PM and 7 PM.

Adult Classes

Adult Acting Workshop

Instructor: Amy DaLuz

Mondays, 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the ACT Classroom

Fall Session: $200 /Spring Session: $200 (or $350 if you sign up for both up front)

Our Adult Acting Workshop classes feature an exciting new teacher this year. Amy DaLuz is a professional actress and acting teacher who received her MFA from UNC-Greensboro and has worked extensively with Triad Stage, the Triad's premiere professional theatre, most recently in The Night of the Iguana.

A class for seasoned actors and novices alike, this intensive scene and monologue study focuses on developing your process as a creative artist. You will be exposed to various acting tools and methods, including the processes of Stanislavsky, Meisner and Chekhov. Ultimately, your toolbox as an actor will expand and the methods you choose will help you take true responsibility for your work.

Classes will meet in two terms. A student is not required to enroll in both, though we certainly hope you will. We will hold a showcase of your work at the end of each term.

Fall Session: September 15 - November 15, 2008 (10 weeks)
Showcase - Saturday, November 15th at 2 PM @ Twin City Stage

Spring Session: March 2 - May 9, 2009 (10 weeks)
Showcase - Saturday, May 9th at 2 PM

Registration

Tuition for after school ACT sessions, K-12, is $185 per session for Fall, Winter and Spring sessions. Registration opens August 4 for students wanting to enroll in ACT classes for the entire school year. These students will pay just $475 for the entire year. That's a savings of over $100.

There are a limited number of scholarships available.

If paying by check, the entire amount including material fees is due at registration. If paying by credit card, the card will be charged one week before a session begins. Tuition is non-refundable. Space is reserved only upon receipt of tuition payment. Classes may be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not achieved.

Registration opens August 4 for all sessions and classes.

Discounts

Year-Long: Students save $100 when they sign up for all three ACT Sessions: Fall, Winter, Spring.
Multi-child: Families who enroll more than one child in the same session receive a 50% discount on the second and additional children enrolled in the same session.

Only one discount program may be used. Families cannot utilize BOTH a year-long AND a multi-child discount.
